Charlene Bebko, Ph.D.


Charlene Bebko brings a background of both business and academic experience to her work in nonprofit and social cause marketing. She received her Ph.D. under the guidance and direction of Dr. Gerald Zaltman at the University of Pittsburgh, one of the two researchers responsible for the development of the field of social cause marketing.  She has developed and taught three non-profit and/or social cause marketing courses: Social Change: Making it Happen, Social Cause Marketing for Non-Profit Organizations, and Marketing for Non-Profit Organizations.   
 
Both her health care marketing consulting and academic research in services marketing and outcomes assessment have contributed to the development of 13 journal articles, over 30 published proceedings and 30 national and international presentations. Dr. Bebko's research has appeared in The Journal of Services Marketing, Journal of Health Care Marketing, Health Marketing Quarterly and Journal of Hospital Marketing. Furthermore, Dr. Bebko received the 1998 Indiana University of Pennsylvania Distinguished Faculty Award for Research.
 
She has a national award winning reputation in services marketing research, recognized by the American Marketing Association.  In both 1992 and 1993, Dr. Bebko’s special expertise in health care marketing was recognized by the AMA’s Academy for Health Care Marketing, when she was awarded a Bronze Award in Health Care Marketing Research. 
 
Dr. Bebko was awarded an internship through the Advertising Education Foundation, Visiting Professor Program, in 1997 and spent that time with The Advertising Council, New York, NY.  Her work included the development of an instrument to gauge incremental social change and was the direct result of a sabbatical she took in 1998-1999 working with them. Besides the research with the Ad Council, she has conducted research in social cause marketing which has produced two journal articles, one journal article in its second review, four published national conference proceedings and presentations, and six national conference presentations.
 
Dr. Bebko has completed over 70 Marketing Research Projects and/or Marketing Plans for non profit organizations in conjunction with students enrolled in her research or management classes, 1988 - 2002.  The IUP Marketing Students won First Place in the Marketing Plan Competition by AMA Pittsburgh Chapter Project Share (non Profit strategic plan marketing contest) in both 2002 and 2003. 

Scott Deutsch


Scott is a skilled marketing and creative professional with over 20 years of experience. He has worked primarily in the high-tech manufacturing world as a consultant, Marketing and Communications Manager, and Creative Director. During his career, Scott has been a leader in marketing products and services to a wide range of markets using all of the tools of the modern marketer including trade shows, advertising, direct mail, web, print materials, PR, and training.

Scott brings his industry knowledge and marketing expertise to clients seeking marketing planning and strategy, product rationalization, budgeting, and creative service consultation.
Prior to this position, Scott served as Manager, North America Marketing and Communications for Kennametal within a global marketing team. His accomplishments included streamlining product offerings and reducing redundancies, developed proposals and presentations, and supported the sales function. Prior positions included Creative Director and Graphic Designer for Extrude Hone, as well as Graphic Designer for Woodward & Lothrop in Washington, DC. Scott has had success working with Extrude Hone Corporation in Irwin, PA; Kennametal, Inc. in Latrobe, PA; The Ex One Company in Irwin, PA; and a number of other clients as an independent contractor.

 

Bill Flaherty, BS, MA


Bill J. Flaherty, Jr. has almost 20 years of experience assisting manufacturing, health care and service organizations with the continuous improvement process and cultural change strategies in national and international markets. He serves on the health care and community health consulting team at Strategy Solutions.   
Currently, Bill is working as a Long Range Planning Executive, where he directs the long range planning and development process to ensure the best use of organization resources in accordance with the objectives for growth and profitability. In this role, he prepares studies to assess the alignment of all areas of an organization and advises appropriate leadership regarding the results of these studies.  
In the past, Bill worked as the Director of Business Consulting Services at Schaffner, Knight, Minnaugh & Company, P.C. and as a Principal and Director of the Leadership and Organizational Development Division at American Innovative Management Group. His major accomplishments include assisting organizations in becoming more effective, efficient and competitive through leadership development and education, assisting clients with cultural change, assisting organizations with the strategic alignment of their business, designing production systems, and facilitating process improvements. He has also worked as a Division Director at the Diocese of Erie, a Diocesan Director for Youth Ministry, and a teacher, coach and administrator at Cathedral Prep High School.
Bill is a graduate of Gannon University with a B.S. in Business Administration and Marketing. He also holds graduate degrees from Cornell University and Gannon University.  

Anne Papinchak, BS, MBA


Anne is a capacity builder; an experienced performance improvement consultant.  She has led the development of international strategic planning, and has conducted international market assessments, strategy development and execution. Anne serves as a Baldrige examiner and was a Director of Performance Excellence at a two time manufacturing recipient of the national quality award. Prior to working at MEDRAD, Anne led Quality & Performance Improvement and Training departments for PNC Financial Services, and led a Talent Development Department at Arthur Andersen & Co, in St. Charles Illinois.
Anne is a direct contributor to the nonprofit sector. She has served as a United Way of Allegheny County Volunteer; consulting directly with the CEO and Board Chair on the redesign of funding allocation; resulting in a new outcome based system aligned with the needs of the community. She has served as a board member for the Westmoreland County Food Bank, VP and Governance Committee. She has led strategic planning retreats for The Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership, LifesWork and the American Diabetes Association.
As a performance improvement consultant with a passion for achieving stretch goals, she delivers successful results through assessment, the development and alignment of key outcomes, strategy, people, core processes, and systems. She is known for sustainable innovative results, on-time and within budget often through large cross-functional and global remote teams. Anne is a certified professional coach, has completed the Carnegie Mellon Executive Management program, PMI project management training, Duquesne University Non-Profit Leadership training and is a graduate of Syracuse University and the University of Pittsburgh.

Doug Rosensteel


Douglas R. Rosensteel, President of BHD Technologies, Inc. is an organizational consultant specializing in Executive Assistance and Business Process Improvement. He helps clients with productivity improvement, culture change, employee retention, and team effectiveness. He specializes in the philosophy and tools of the Toyota Production System (commonly referred to as Lean Manufacturing), Theory of Constraints, and the teachings of Deming, Senge, Drucker, and other masters. His consulting approach is a unique blend of statistical method, human psychology, and systems thinking. He is certified as a consultant to management through the Institute of Management Consultants.
Prior to becoming a professional consultant, he held a variety of positions in industry including Director of Systems Development for a manufacturer of plastic components for the medical industry, where he was responsible for the development of learning and company-wide reengineering. Douglas earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the California University of Pennsylvania in 1982. In 1984, he began studying the work of W. Edwards Deming, which led to a yearlong private tutorial with Dr. Gipsie B. Ranney, one of Deming’s colleagues. The tutorial focused on Deming’s System of Profound Knowledge and Dr. Peter M. Senge’s Disciplines of the Learning Organization.
Douglas has consulted in the Textile, Chemical, Healthcare, Metallurgical, Plastics, Travel, IT, Banking, Education, and Food industries. He served on the Board of the American Society for Quality, and cofounded the Council on Realizing Excellence in Management, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the management principles of Neoteric Leadership. In 1998, he founded the organizational consulting firm BHD Technologies, Inc. to help executives improve the performance of their organizations. Some of his clients include the West Penn Allegheny Health Care System, Redstone Highlands, Ventana USA, Education Management Corporation, Hanes Menswear, Hercules Incorporated, H.J.Heinz, Kennametal Inc. and PNC Bank. He is currently writing a self-help book for executives based on his work in executive assistance.

Erin Slattengren, BA, MPA


Erin has worked with Strategy Solutions, Inc. in a number of capacities over the years as both an in-house employee and an independent contractor. She has a background in strategic planning, grant research and writing, proposal development, project management, group facilitation and market research.

Erin has a breadth of experience in working with state and local government and community planning. Early on, she managed constituent concerns for the Governor of Minnesota in an array of policy areas including K-12 education and the environment. While working at Strategy Solutions, Erin was involved with many community-planning projects including the development of an economic development plan for Erie County and an early childhood education plan. Erin worked as a researcher for the Erie County Drug Treatment Court program and conducted a cost-benefit and outcome analysis for the program in 2005. 

Erin has also worked extensively in the affordable housing industry both as a part of Strategy Solutions, working with various clients on emergency shelter grant and planning projects and as a project manager for the Allegheny Housing Authority in Pittsburgh for two years. In this position, Erin assisted in the management of a $20 million HUD funded housing revitalization project as well as many other grant funded projects throughout Allegheny County.

Most recently, Erin served as a senior policy analyst and special projects manager for the Wisconsin Supreme Court in Madison, WI. In this position, Erin directed activities and oversaw implementation of programs focused on utilizing evidence-based practices to improve the outcomes of court cases involving issues of drug abuse/addiction, mental health, domestic violence and sexual assault. She also assisted local courts in identifying funding opportunities, developing grant proposals, preparing budgets, and submitting grant reports and served on numerous grant review panels. Erin managed multiple internal policy and/or project-focused committees and developed external partnerships for state court projects and represented the Wisconsin Supreme Court ‘s interests on external state policy committees. Erin has planned and developed curriculum for judicial training programs, developed online learning tools and worked to improve court system processes.

Erin holds a Masters in Public Administration from Gannon University in Erie, PA and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN.


 Laurel Swartz, BA, MS


Laurel has worked with Strategy Solutions, Inc. with research and analytical support.  For over 25 years, she served as the Program Director of Hamot Health Connection in Erie, PA where she administered and directed all operational activities, established and met budgetary goals, and coordinated and implemented services and marketing strategies.  During her tenure, she also designed in implemented service evaluations and administered and monitored grant funds.  She also taught at Gannon University as an adjunct faculty member specializing in Mental Health and the Elderly and Sociology of Aging.

Laurel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and a Masters in Gerontology from Virignia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.
